✘ Don’t hog the mic

We get it. Karaoke is your thing. You’re the best singer in the room. That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s suddenly your concert and everyone else is just there to watch you. It’s a cardinal rule, take your turn then pass it on.

✘ Don’t force people to sing

The general point of karaoke is to sing songs and have a good time. But there are people who genuinely just want to come along and watch other people sing. If a little bit of peer pressure and teasing won’t convince them to get on the mic, then leave them be.

✘ Don’t heckle

This goes without saying but we’re including it anyway to emphasize. Always remember that Karaoke is not just about fun and enjoyment, it is also about respect and encouragement. Even if someone doesn’t sing good enough, you must respect his courage to try. Do not ever boo someone off. Ever.

✘ Don’t stand in front of the monitor when someone is singing. 

This is an absolute no-no when doing karaoke! The lyrics are usually flashed on an LED TV screen. Standing infront of the monitor can block the view of the singer and hurdle your karaoke fun.

✘ Equipment is NOT cheap. Don't abuse it!

Be sensible while using the karaoke equipment as it is not cheap. Mind not to tangle the microphone wires around your feet or using the speakers and amplifiers as furniture. Remember that “If broken consider sold” rule might apply here.
